To configure the Filter component, select a metadata key. End-users can select one its values to filter search results.

The Filter component differs from the Tree filter component by the way it displays hierarchical metadata keys. The Filter component shows one level of a hierarchical metadata key at a time. Users can change level using the arrows.

For a Region metadata key with a value of Europe > France > Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, the Filter component shows the following:

Hierarchical selection menu for the metadata key 'Region,' displaying 'Europe' with a forward navigation option.

Hierarchical selection menu for the metadata key 'Region,' showing 'Europe' as the selected value with a backward navigation option. It displays 'France' with a forward navigation option.

Hierarchical selection menu for the metadata key 'Region,' showing 'France' as the selected value with a backward navigation option, and 'Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur' available for selection.

When the numbers of values for the selected metadata key exceeds the number configured in the Initial number of displayed values field, a button appears to allow users to see more values.

  • Use the Metadata menu to configure the order in which metadata key values appear. It is also possible to choose whether users can select one or multiple values.
  • It is possible to track when users select the button which displays more filter values. Activate the tracking of this event in the component's Settings under Analytics custom events. When the tracking is active, and users does this action, Fluid Topics sends a custom_event.trigger Analytics event. The Custom event name field value corresponds to the eventName field of the event. Use the Retrieve event web service to see the events.
  • The component displays the first eight levels of metadata values.
  • The maximum number of values visible to users is 1000.
