An asynchronous control file exists independently from the content in a separate archive, as opposed to a synchronous control file that exists alongside content in the same archive.
It is possible to use an asynchronous control file to manage content as follows:
- Create a control file, or edit an existing one.
- Decide whether to target a document by its
<originId>or its original<filePath>. - See Use cases and examples for step-by-step instructions depending on the context.
- Setting an
<originId>is incompatible with setting an<instance>attribute. - If the original ditamap has one or more DITAVAL files, it is necessary to target the DITAVAL's
filePathin an<instance>attribute.
